Big weekend in Singapore. Yes, that’s right, IN Singapore. While much of my class was in KL for the F1 (how hip I am with my abbreviations?) or in C for a GT (OK, Cambodia for a good time doesn’t lend itself to acronymization the same way), I had my friend Keddins in town from Tokyo…an old friend from NYC who I hadn’t seen in a while, we had been planning a reunion when I got to Asia. He used to DJ a lot of parties in Bali (that’s his job) so when I got here I wrote to find out when the next one was. He replied “what are you doing this weekend.” So I thought “Sweet! Party in Bali!” But then I didn’t get details. So I wrote saying I needed info so I could buy my plane ticket. And he calls me saying actually he was thinking about coming to Singapore to hang for weekend. Great, now I have to entertain HIM. Not the way I had things pictured.
But it’s been cool. A lot of eating in Geylang (if you’re in Sing and you don’t know Geylang…or only know it for the hookers…then you’d better ask somebody. That’s where the food’s at). Saturday night there was a great INSEAD crew at a great band at the Esplanade. Don’t be surprised if you start hearing Si*Sé getting played at more parties around here. They tore it up, and, in true INSEAD (but apparently not true Singapore) fashion, we were the only ones rocking the dance floor. Too bad, those beats were too good to pass on. After that, it was an Attica mission with the band (Keddins knows the singer from way back in NYC…although she did not come along), and lo and behold, another 5:30AM trip to a new and exciting SGP food stall, this time for boiled ribs in garlic broth. Yummmmmmmm.
Today, we went a little more hoity-toity, with the Four Seasons brunch. Oh Lord. We have a winner. I don’t know if it was the sushi, the fresh Bretagne oysters (flown in first class), the Peking duck, the soft shell crab, the vanilla-infused white wine poached figs, the crispy pork, the all-you-can drink martini and fresh juiced bar (juice of the day: pineapple strawberry), or the 8 zillion other bad-ass dishes they had, but I left a satisfied man. Once again, if you haven’t yet, you might want to get on that.
Well, I better sign off…I have a busy week of THREE FUCKING CLASSES. Two on Tuesday, one on Thursday. Amazing. Was going to go to Bali Tuesday, but we have this private island rented starting Friday, and I just can’t get from one to the other efficiently. Anybody up for a surfing day-trip to Bintan on Wednesday?
Oh, and I expect many sympathetic reactions from France. Starting……now
